Outreach and Inspiration

The August meeting of the Chesapeake Sports Club was held at the Chesapeake Convention Center. Dave McManus informed the club that the golf tournament recently held at Suffolk golf course was very successful, raising over $24,000 for the scholarship fund. President Lou Tayon announced that Henry Thomas and Gene McKinney will be inducted into the Legends of Honor at the September meeting. Carolyn Bernard introduced guest speaker Tony Brothers, a 22-year veteran referee in the NBA. Mr. Brother's presentation related that the loss of his mother inspired him to get involved in philanthropy, specifically helping single mothers in their challenge to raise their children.
